A 19-year-old man died following a police chase and crash in Carbon County.
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said Matthew E. Stepp of Mahoning Township was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest. The cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries from a collision.
The report said that Stepp’s pickup truck struck a tree and he was ejected. The accident occurred at 6:35 p.m. Thursday in the area of Hazelwood Road and Laurel Lane in Towamensing Township. He was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital by helicopter.
Earlier, state police at Lehighton said it attempted to stop Stepp along Route 248 in Franklin Township because of vehicle code violations. Police then activated emergency lights and sirens after he failed to stop and pursued Stepp about 10 miles until he crashed.
Police are continuing to investigate.
