Three students were injured Wednesday afternoon when an SUV crashed head-on into a bus.

The crash involving district Bus 161 happened around 2:10 p.m. on East Fourth Street, near the intersection with Edwards Street, on Bethlehem’s South Side, the district said in a .

Initially the district said six Executive Education Academy Charter School students were taken to the hospital; however city police said in a news release Thursday that three students were injured. The bus driver and the driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, and they did not need to go to the hospital.

After speaking to witnesses and viewing video from the bus, police determined that the SUV was westbound on East Fourth Street when it crossed over the double-yellow line into the eastbound lane, where the bus was traveling, according to the release.

The SUV driver was cited with summary traffic violations, including reckless driving. The bus driver was not cited.

Both the bus and SUV had to be towed from the scene.
