Animal repellent sickens people at Northampton County Walmart

A Walmart in Lower Nazareth Township was evacuated Sunday afternoon after the odor from an animal repellent caused multiple people to feel nauseous, officials said. The incident started around 3 p.m. at the store on Easton-Nazareth Highway. Keith Kulp, a Colonial Regional Police sergeant, said the animal repellent was returned by someone in the customer service section of the store, and the container was likely opened by accident.

Allentown road project set to begin, last 2 years

A long-planned project to improve South Fourth Street in Allentown is set to get under way. Work on the road, which carries Route 145, will begin Monday and continue for the next two years, according to PennDOT spokesperson Ron Young.

Coopersburg Diner closes for a day in honor of employee killed in crash

Friends of an Upper Saucon Township man killed in a crash June 26 on Interstate 78 are raising money to help his widow and baby daughter, and his workplace was closed Monday in his honor. Edgar J. Guadarrama Jaimes, 30, an Air Force veteran and popular employee of the Coopersburg Diner, was riding his motorcycle in the eastbound lanes when he was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer and an SUV near the Summit Lawn exit in Lehigh County. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Real estate deal includes 2 Lehigh Valley apartment complexes

One of the nation’s largest apartment building owners recently purchased two Lehigh Valley complexes. Morgan Properties announced Monday it acquired Congress Apartments and South Mountain Apartment Homes, both in Allentown, as part of an 11-property portfolio from the DePaul Management Co.

Lehigh Valley football coach appears on TV game show

East Stroudsburg South High School football coach Matt Walters made a July 2 guest appearance on NBC’s “Password” game show with Jimmy Fallon. During his appearance, which Walters said went by in a flash, Walters got to plug the Poconos, East Stroudsburg and the Lehigh Valley.

First lady Jill Biden visits Allentown

First lady Jill Biden visited Allentown on Tuesday for a White House event focused on federal educational and workforce opportunities for Latino residents. Biden’s visit was part of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ “On the Road” tour, in which federal officials have traveled the country to meet with Hispanic residents and tout legislative accomplishments. She did not take questions or address recent comments from prominent Democrats about whether President Joe Biden is fit to run for reelection, following his shaky performance in the June 27 presidential debate against Donald Trump.
